GOOGLE EARTH ENGINE BASED AGRICULTURAL DROUGHT MONITORING IN KODAVANAR WATERSHED, PART OF AMARAVATHI BASIN, TAMIL NADU, INDIA

Abstract. The agricultural drought assessment and monitoring has become a prime concern in recent times as it impedes land capability causes food scarcity. Therefore, the present study constructed methodological framework through Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, which offers advanced effective timely of occurrences. been carried out Kodavanar watershed, part Amaravathi basin is noted with signs such insufficient rainfall vegetation stress current situation. remote sensing indices are utilised for agriculture including Land Surface Temperature (LST), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Condition (TCI), (VCI) Health (VHI). In particular, VHI results show that area healthy no category rapidly decreased from 934.29 to 107.83 sq.km across years have reached threatening condition extreme extremely low cover increasing exponential proportion over 5% year 2019 2020. However, compared meteorological indicator Standardized Precipitation (SPI) reflects SPI reflecting similar indicating dry precipitation moderate highlighted regions northern tip central eastern portions. This work illustrates use GEE platform portions should be implemented proper water resource management by researchers, planners policymakers watershed reducing stress.
